Communication On Progress (COP)

Balmer Lawrie is a founding member of the Global Compact in India and is, thus, very conscious of its responsibilities. In pursuance of our commitment, we continue to champion the Principles of the Global Compact. It has been our constant endeavor to actively pursue activities that are in alignment with the vision of the Global Compact mission. We have felt that firm commitment and involvement of Top Management is critical for sustaining the global compact spirit at the organizational level and accordingly, in various top management forums, I have stressed the need for sustainability in all that we do.
 
The Communication of Progress for the year 2010–11captures the efforts that have been put in during the year to further the cause of Corporate Social Responsibility aligned to the principles of Global Compact. At Balmer Lawrie, we have always striven to balance the local and global issues: while some activities are targeted to locations in and around our work centres, others are intended to support critical concerns that touch entire humanity; viz. environmental issues.

Further, at the Organizational level we have initiated action for effecting structural changes for planning and implementation of CSR activities, with clearly specified accountabilities. A detailed audit mechanism is being instituted to ensure that projects are prioritized in terms of their impact and alignment to the principles of Global Compact.

We once again reiterate our commitment to pursue and support the principles of Global Compact. I firmly believe that our association with Global Compact will eventually become a matter of mutual heritage which we all will cherish.
