Balmer Lawrie had entered the field of Leather Chemicals in 1983 by taking up
manufacture of
Synthetic Fatliquors through commercialisation of a technology
developed by the Central Leather
Research Institute, Chennai. Over the years, Balmer
Lawrie has added several new products
and formulations, developed inhouse in its
modern R&D facilities at Chennai. The Company now
offers a basket of Synthetic
Tanning Agents and Synthetic / Semi-Synthetic high performance
Fatliquors, beam
house chemicals, finishing chemicals manufactured in its modern plants at
Chennai.
Leather Chemical Division, Certified by BVQI for ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:2004,
OHSAS18001:1999. Balmer Lawrie’s manufacturing expertise is backed by superb
technical services
provided by a team of very experienced & highly qualified Leather
Technologists. The Company
operates Technical Service Centres at Chennai, Ranipet,
Ambur, Kolkata and Kanpur, the major
centres of leather production in India.
The service network for Leather Chemicals is backed by a network of friendly
Dealers / Stockists who
are present in each pocket of leather industry in India and
in several countries in South East Asia.

The centre has been recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, a
nodal agency of the Government of India, overseeing the standards of R&D establishments in India.
The centre is also certified for design and development by BVQI for ISO9000-2000 QMS.
The centre has pioneered in the indegeneous development and commercialisation of Sulfochlorination
Technology in India. The centre has tied up with national institutes like Indian Institute of Science-Bangalore, Indian Institute of chemical technology-Hyderabad, Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur;
Central Leather Research Institute-Chennai to develop innovative products for leather
industry.
The centre has well equipped state of the art instrumentation facilities to support product and process development and well equipped pilot plant for scale up studies. The centre also has well equipped application Development Laboratory to evaluate products besides having well qualified scientists and leather technologists specialising in the areas of organic synthesis, polymer science and formulation science for developing innovative solutions
